ESTATE SALE.....

I am helping a gal get a house ready for an estate sale at the end of the month...and let me tell you it's GREAT!!! I am so LOVING IT!!!

It's an old house not too far from me and the lady of the house is 90 and is living elsewhere. She LOVED Victorian things. Furniture, doll, lace, dishes, lamps, ....and one of her hobbies was making doll houses...they are WONDERFUL...and doll houses aren't my thing...these are so detailed...I hope to show you them soon.

Yesterday I was at the house and we were going through the 3 bedrooms. On one of the beds was a wooden box. I opened the box...SURPRIZE...it was the Mister's ashes...and then we opened a small box that was wrapped in Christmas paper...another SURPRIZE...the little doggies ashes...We had ourselves a good laugh. Of course there are the dead mice and spiders that have made their homes in the house.

It is so amazing what people keep...(guilty here too) and then when a stranger goes through your stuff...well...one could write a book.

I am able to pick treasures out before the sale...score!!! I wish Victorian was my style...there is a wonderful animal head carved settee and matching chair, a lovely china cabinet with dog heads carved on top of that. I may purchase an old oil lamp and maybe a few pieces of china. I'll ask to take pictures when I go back on Friday to help set up. The photo above is what I have chosen, so far...too cute Victorian child's shoes and the print. Isn't she pretty :)
It's rather cold in the house. No water, working toilet or heat. There is electricity :) Who knows maybe this is my calling...doing estate sales?!!! I "work" there a couple afternoons and think I'll be working this weekend. I also have to get my stuff ready for the sale at HQ.
BUSY...BUSY...BUSY!!!
I'm LOVING IT!!!
Warmly,
Deb :)

What fun! I LOVE looking for treasures! Recently we have had to clean out a few houses and I must say I am a bit "burned out" from going through other peoples stuff! Each time I make a promise not to save things...and then I look at the bins in my basement...YIKES! Time to get back to selling on Ebay! Can't wait to see more pictures!

I have always thought that I would like to do that:) The shoes and the print are precious and can't wait to see the rest. I frequent estate sales and know that a lot of work, dirty work goes into the preparing for the sale. Enjoy and have a blessed day!

The two items in the photo, the painting of the pretty lady and the adorable children's shoes are wonderful selections.
How fun for you.
How do you set prices at a sale like this?
The handcarved furniture sounds handsome indeed.

Hi Deb, How exciting, I would love a job like that! I love doll houses and have built a few over the years. I am building a SanFranciso one right now. Can't wait to see your pics. Your fall swap in previous post is great! I love estate sales and can't wait until we get this work done on our house so we can get back to going to them.
Blessings, Shirl

Hey Deb!
It sounds like so much fun....wish I could be there and help you...imagine the trouble we could get into!? LoL! That picture and shoes are precious...I'd love to see the dollhouse.....have fun and I hope you get first dibs on lots of goodies!
P.S. Don't know if I'll be brave enough to take my camera to the flea market...it would probably end up lost in the shuffle of all of our junk, but I will take pictures of the car loaded down...you'll get a kick out that...we'll be looking like the modern day beverly hillbillies!
Big Hugs,
Queenie

Now, where do you live? I think I might just have to do a road trip for that estate sale! All the stuff you mention is stuff I love, and please please please show lots of pix of the dollhouses--one of these days I will get the dollhouse kit out of the closet and actually put it up and stuff it full of the little things I've been collecting for it. You do always find the most interesting things!

That will be fun helping with an estate sale...well not the ashes of those who have passed or the spiders or the mice...
We don't have many estate sales here. It's all auctions.
Thanks for sharing!

The ashes would have done me in! I think of these things when we do clean outs & buyouts, but have been lucky NOT to run into these kinds of surprises. It is such FUN tho going thru everything & the little treasures you find.

Have a snuggly warm eve. TTFN ~Marydon
