Buyer Beware & Tree Down

Last week while at the antique store, on my duty day, a woman came in with "jadeite" to sell...hmmm, Since I was "first" person in, I could buy first. I didn't ask any questions. She said it was from her sisters collection who had passed on. She gave me a price, thinking it was REAL jadeite, I  bought it, feeling a little "smart"...I went home and looked it up...ALL REPRODUCTION pieces, not so "smart"...LESSON LEARNED! Not the lady's fault, mine! I won't be buying any more glassware! (Unless it is for my collection!)

This is what "we" were doing this Sunday. Taking down this dying tree...it is WAY bigger than it looks in the photo...hubby was 2 stories up on a ladder cutting some big branches down before cutting it at the base. I was PRAYING!!!It came down perfectly! Thankful! It was 85 degrees on Sunday...perfect day to do yard work...LOL!!!

We will use some of it as firewood...hubby working on it today.

We let the little girl on the tree and she is "queen of the yard"! She is almost above out heads on the tree limb. The boy dog wasn't very sure about being up so high, so I couldn't get a good photo of him.

I LOVE  Zumba. The music is a tad loud, but love sweating!! Going tonight. I'm trying to go 3 nights a week, not working out that way.

With this awesome weather, it isn't feeling like October, I hope it last until December and then it can snow!

Disappointing that is not true jadeite, but it is very pretty. I prefer to exercise in a pool, nice and cool.

It's so hard to know sometimes with pieces like that...it is really pretty though, and I'm sure you can use it for lots of thing. If not, I'm sure you could sell it, marked as repro!
That tree was a big job...glad it came down safely!

Deb, You sure do not have to tell me about how big that tree really is...we just cut up limbs from the top two thirds of hickory tree this past spring. It did make nice fire wood...but oh boy the branches full of leaves...we got to burn them in the neighbor's big burn pile. That's a lot of work..in hot weather too. We rake, filled in holes where the limbs gouged the ground. Split the cut wood, stack it, it just wore us out for days. LOL. Your dog looks cute walking around. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

We had a tree limb about that size fall into our yard on Friday! It crashed on our fence. Not a fun project. So sorry about the jadite. I don't really know the difference so I stay away.
Enjoy your weather. We had some cooler weather today and it was a nice break for the heat.

Oh Deb, I love Zumba too :) I used to go to the gym for Zumba all the time a few years ago, but haven't been since. Have fun!

Thanks for the visit to my blog earlier today and the tip about the "Angels." I will definitely remember that for next time! {{smiles}} Hugs to you!

How disappointing about the jadeite reproductions, but it is a very pretty set! Sunday was the perfect day to work outdoors, and that was a huge tree!!! Your Baby Girl sure looks to cute and adventurous!

Do you ever bite more than you can chew? I do a lot of the time...I finally planted like 120 tulip bulbs!!! I have blisters!!!

I know nothing about Jadeite and I always pass when I see some since I just don't know and the prices are always so high. It is pretty and if you got it for a good price it's fun to have! That is one BIG tree. My kids still have 3 big pine trees to get down at their house but its been too wet to take the down.
Happy week!

Hi! I am afraid I would make the same mistakes when buying antiques. I don't know enough about them but love antiques. Glad all went well with the tree! Visiting from Connie's site. Nancy

I love glass but it is very hard to tell the vintage from the repro. You can probably sell it as such, as it is very pretty. Oh taking down big trees not my favorite. Glad your hubby did it safely. I always worry when a chain saw is involved, lol.

Hi Deb, it is disappointing about the jadeite but it still is a pretty collection to own.
Glad all went well the the tree coming down. I know it is a lot of work. We recently had to remove one of our big oaks and it was an event that day!! Your pooch is so cute overlooking the situation! The weather has been real pretty here too for yard work. Enjoy your Zumba classes. Sounds fun! xo

Disappointing about the reproduction jadeite. Unfortunately I've seen far too much of it creeping into antique stores. Mine doesn't allow reproductions to be sold. If a seller brings reproductions in, the owner will take it out of their booth and box it up for them to pick up. I don't blame him. I wouldn't want to go into a store and spend a fortune on a piece that I thought was real and it turns out fake.

We have actually knowingly purchased reproduction jadeite because it was so much cheaper than the real thing. I would be pretty ticked to buy it at the higher price though. I hope you can still get some joy out of it. It doesn't look any different and I love the color, real or repro.

Very pretty pieces even if they are reproductions. I don't buy Jadeite unless I know for sure or it is cheap enough so I can just use it or display it. I would have probably done the same as you and bought it. Wow, what a tree.

Hugs, Dianne

Too bad about the 'jadeite' pieces! At least they are pretty! That tree must have been a real chore to take care of, so happy for you both that it is down and nobody got hurt! Enjoy a beautiful upcoming weekend! Blessings, Cindy

That's stinky about the jadeite pieces. That tree looks like a HUGE project. Enjoy this weekend. Our weather is changing to much cooler temps. It's probably coming your way too. The fall colors are amazing though!

Still, the pieces ARE lovely even if they are reproductions! You are brave to cut down your own trees! Looks like a big job!

I still think those pieces are so pretty! Justify the purchase by using the heck out of them! ;)

Glad hubby wasn't hurt getting that tree down! Use the "jadeite."

Oh, my - that tree looks like a big job! My husband could never have handled that on his own, but he's got a bad shoulder, among other ailments! We had one of our big old trees fall onto the front of our house in February, and somehow we got very lucky in that the way it fell caused very little damage. Since then we had to have another huge one removed. I miss them, but we can't have them falling on the house anymore!
So sorry that happened to you with the jadeite. I think the only reason I am able to tell at first sight what is a reproduction is that I bought my first (real, vintage) pieces back in 1975! I fell in love with it back before anybody ever heard of Martha Stewart, so the knowing just comes from experience, I guess. That was a bummer for you, but it IS very nice-looking glassware, nonetheless.
